Letter to Parishioners 3rd Sunday of Easter

April 14, 2013 (Third Sunday of Easter)

Dear Parishioners,

The joy of Easter continues to fill the hearts of the disciples of Jesus Christ following a Lent of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, may each of you receive the full measure of grace and heavenly favors as we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Recently we have experienced a steady and promising growth to our parish family, I have noticed many visitors and guests have stopped by for Mass or inquired in our office about parish registration.   I hope they find in us a welcoming parish family ready and eager to make them feel at home at St. John the Baptist.   Some of our new and visiting families are in some way connected to the United States Military; please help me in honoring them for their service, sacrifice and commitment to our country.   I hope they always feel welcome among a grateful people.   Many parishes in our community are expecting changes in their leadership please pray for the parishioners in these parishes and show them our solidarity through love and prayers.

I am encouraged as well our recent ability to continue to service our mortgage debt that we report to you in the parish bulletin every week, at the current rate we should be able to retire this debt by the fall of this year, God willing.   Our attention can then turn to the future plans we have for St. John’s growth and development.   I encourage you to do all you can to assist us through your continued generosity in through the Sunday tithe and your participation in the various upcoming parish fundraisers especially the Parish Festival in November.   I am pleased to announce a golf tournament in September as another fundraiser for the new church; we will provide more information soon.   I encourage you as your travel this summer to not forget your parish needs your regular contributions, only together will we reach our dream of a new church and parish facilities.

I want to also let you know that as the end of the school year and summer months approach we have various activities and events planned.   Soon we will give you more information about Vacation Bible School in June, celebration for the parish feast day on June 24, several special Masses throughout the summer, and bible study for adults and families soon to come.   I hope you will join us for these and all our planned events throughout the summer.

Finally, I would like to offer you a summer reading list, for many have asked for recommendations for spiritual reading as well as catechetical and even historical books for vacation reading.   The list I have enclosed is drawn up with a variety of wonderful Catholic works; it is certainly not an exhaustive list.  Hopefully you might find something to your liking.

Let us continue to grow in love for the Lord every day and pray for one another as we together journey to an ever deeper faith and reawaken faith in those whose faith is in slumber.   I offer you my prayers during this Easter Season.

In the Risen Lord Jesus,
Fr. Rodolfo D. Vásquez, Pastor
